Self-care

Let's discuss self-care. I'm not referring to bubble baths and face masks, although those are pleasant. I'm talking about the type of self-care that genuinely aids you in surviving and thriving.
Here are four levels of real self-care:
Physical Self-Care
Your body and your mind are on the same team. Sleep, food, movement these aren’t optional. Pulling all-nighters might feel like dedication, but your brain can’t function without rest. You wouldn’t expect your phone to run on 1% battery, so don’t expect that from yourself.
Mental Self-Care
That’s managing your thoughts and your mindset. When your brain says, “I’m not good enough,” talk back to it. Tell it, “I’m doing my best. I’m learning. I don’t have to be perfect.”
Protect your peace: mute negativity, take breaks from social media, and surround yourself with people who lift you up, not tear you down. And go see a therapist regularly!
Emotional Self-Care
This one’s big. It’s giving yourself permission to feel. ("feel and heal", is what a friend to me) You don’t have to be “okay” all the time. If you’re angry, sad, confused that’s normal. Talk about it. Find a trusted adult, counselor, teacher, or friend who listens without judgment.
Spiritual self-care
Lastly, but definitely not least, this is the practice of nurturing your soul!! A step to fostering that sense of purpose, meaning, and connection to something larger than yourself, which looks different for everyone. This can involve religious or faith-based practices like prayer and attending services, or non-religious activities such as spending time in nature, meditation, journaling, or acts of kindness. The key is engaging in rituals that help you feel grounded, connected, and aligned with your core beliefs and values.
"Real self-care isn’t selfish. It’s how you keep showing up for yourself and others."
